Source Molecular Offers Improved Human Test
Source Molecular has been given a license by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to offer a modified and improved Human Bacteroidetes ID test to identify sources of fecal pollution.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) September 29, 2014 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has modified and improved the original Human Bacteroidetes ID assay and Source Molecular has been given the license to offer this test to its clients, who are seeking to identify sources of fecal pollution.
The new assay is less prone to PCR inhibition, which means that the test is more sensitive since lower levels of DNA can still replicated and be detected. The increased sensitivity also means greater accuracy in the microbial source tracking results. As MST is a constantly evolving field with continuous advancements, Source Molecular makes a stringent effort to provide only the most current and peer-reviewed technology and tests.
Other than the improved human test, Source Molecular is also licensed to offer EPA-developed and patented MST technology for the detection of Cattle and Chicken fecal pollution. The two U.S. EPA cattle tests are the only biomarkers available that can be used to discriminate between Cattle and other ruminant fecal sources, such as Deer, Elk, Goat and Sheep. All in all, Source Molecular's laboratory can provide analysis on 23 different tests from 13 different hosts - Human, Cattle, Swine, Gull, Goose, Chicken, Dog, Deer, Elk, Horse, Bird, Ruminant and Beaver.
As a testament to its laboratory's quality and high standards, Source Molecular is also on its way to becoming ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited. It received its pending accreditation notice from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and upon completion of the accreditation process, Source Molecular will be provided a Certificate and Scope of Accreditation detailing the tests for which the company has been judged competent to perform. This will make Source Molecular the only dedicated Microbial Source Tracking laboratory in the country to be ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited.
