SonoSite's M-Turbo(R) invaluable for AAA screening
SonoSite's M-Turbo hand carried ultrasound system proves invaluable for the potentially life saving procedure of AAA screening.
- (1888PressRelease) November 04, 2011 - Hampshire's abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening programme relies on SonoSite's MTurbo hand-carried ultrasound system for scanning, primarily in community health centres and GP surgeries. Justin Sanders, programme coordinator, explained: "Hampshire is one of the larger AAA screening programmes, covering the whole of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We currently have five M-Turbo systems and three ultrasound technicians, with another three in training, and anticipate scanning 10,500 men during the first year of the programme."
"AAA screening is potentially a life-saving procedure. Aneurysms may go undetected until they rupture, when the prognosis is not good; many patients will not survive long enough to reach hospital. The M-Turbo allows us to identify an aneurysm and either initiate surveillance programmes or refer the patient to a consultant for treatment, reducing the likelihood of emergency surgery. We recently detected a very large aneurysm - 6.6 cm - that was completely asymptomatic. The patient was totally unaware of its existence, and has now been referred for surgery." Justin concluded: "Our technicians like the portability and image quality of the M-Turbo and find it very intuitive to use. Dependability and durability are crucial, as the instruments are constantly being transported between different clinics. The M-Turbo systems have proved very rugged, and the five year warranty offers us peace of mind."
