SonicWALL Highlights Web 2.0, Smart Phones as Latest Challenge to IT security
Facebook users account for 45.83 percent of UAE population.
- (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2011 - Dubai - According to a study by Business Monitor International, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) spending on IT products is expected to reach AED12.85 billion (US$3.5 billion) by 2011 and grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 8 percent from 2011 to 2015. Subsequently, the UAE is also a leader in social media penetration. A study by Dubai School of Government found that 45.38 percent of the UAE's population uses Facebook, 18.48 percent of the population being new users. UAE users are also the most balanced in age, with 55 percent of all locally based users over 30 . This means that the majority of working professionals in the country are connected and active in the social media scene.
"Modern-day empowered employees use smart-phones and tablets to work from remote locations. We are a truly mobile workforce," said Florian Malecki, SonicWALL's senior product marketing manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), speaking at the IDC Security Road show 2011 in Dubai. SonicWALL also highlighted its take on 'Empowering Your Organization with IT Security' across the IDC Road Shows in Riyadh, Kuwait and Qatar.
Employees use these new technologies to engage with their colleagues, customers and business partners. "Web 2.0 and mobile applications, while empowering, also redefine the risks to IT security. These include malware from mobiles and desktops and security breaches, intentional and unintentional, by employees with access to confidential information," emphasized Malecki.
