Solamon Partners With Manitou; Preparing For PV Installations Across Africa
Soalmon partners with Sub Saharan firm.
- (1888PressRelease) February 21, 2014 - Solamon Energy Corp is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Manitou Investments effective immediately, which will enable the companies to deliver an array of solar PV solutions into Sub-Saharan, particularly those countries in Central Africa. As a critical part of Solamon's Electrify Africa: Let the Sunshine In campaign, the deal provides Manitou the resources to offer effective design information and business plans to government leaders and corporate executives, as well as administrators and officials, currently tasked to solve the energy crisis in their nations.
"We have been working with Manitou to understand where the need is greatest on the ground and how to allocate resources in order to deliver results efficiently," explains Jay Yeo, Solamon President. "Based on our experience, we are taking a fundamental three-pronged approach in the short-term to develop not only private solar arrays and large commercial power plants but also micro-grid solutions. Our first step to create a pipeline, which will be overseen by Manitou's CEO Martin Kalala, is to attract and train a local sales force to operate in Brazzaville Congo."
According to the recent 'Overview of the Off-Grid Lighting Market in Africa' report by Lighting Africa, a program of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), up to 140 million people should have access to better lighting by 2015, positioning Africa to become the largest market in the world for off-grid electricity with an estimated 250 million people supplied with electricity in this way by 2030.
In addition to the aspect of sales, there is an important humanitarian reason to undertake this initiative and ultimately place power squarely in the hands of the people, as explained by Kalala. "Beside of the idea of generating income and new jobs," he adds, "I also think as a world citizen I do have the obligation to think about the future generation, especially the African one, where I am from.
"Since the solar source for renewable energy is clean and free," Kalala concludes, "African nations can protect their people, their environment, and their future economic development by using renewable energy sources."
Solamon Energy typically offers a ground-mounted solar array of integrated cells over a package of land called the Apollo Acre™. The company also develops custom solutions with local partners to provide roof-mounted and parking lot systems that are easily augmented by micro wind turbine technology and other innovative features to supply renewable energy locally.
About Solamon:
Solamon Energy Corp. sells integrated arrays of ground-mounted and rooftop photovoltaic cells. These solar power plants are connected by cable to varied transmission equipment, including converters, inverters and batteries, utilizing 5 acres of land per unit; each unit is called an Apollo Acre™. Additionally, it is expected the company's business activities will spin-off many jobs locally, given engineering requirements, construction, unit commissioning and subsequent maintenance.
