SNS Completes its First Warehouse Design and Consultancy in Syria with Confectionary Giant KATAKIT
SNS the leading provider of supply chain consultancies and solutions in the Middle-East is proud to announce that it has completed the design of a new distribution center for raw material and finished goods for KATAKIT Group, the leading manufacturer of consumer packaged food and beverages products in Syria.
- (1888PressRelease) February 22, 2011 - Beirut - Ever since its establishment in 1991 by Mahmoud Anzarouti, KATAKIT has always been keen on improving its operations to cope with the exponential growth that it has witnessed which expanded its consumer market well beyond the Syrian borders. With premises extending over 100,000 sq. m., a production of more than 50 confectionary products (requiring over 400 raw material items and packaging items) and over 55 juice products and powder mixes (requiring around 200 raw material and packaging items), KATAKIT has decided to construct a new distribution center to store its finished goods and facilitate its regional and export sales. The new DC will also serve as a storage facility for raw material and packaging products. KATAKIT selected SNS to review their requirements and complete the design phase.
In order to provide KATAKIT with the optimal layout of the facility, SNS analyzed the volume of stored goods at different temperatures, the number of daily inbound and outbound transactions as well as the movement of goods from and to the production facilities considering all along a 10-year growth plan. SNS' objective was to maximize the storage capacity in the new warehouse considering KATAKIT's plan to venture into Third Party Logistics business as well as guarantee the smooth inflow of Raw Material and outflow of Finished Goods in this high velocity environment.
SNS delivered KATAKIT a new set of Standard Operating Procedures, a new Logistics Organizational chart and a detailed warehouse AutoCAD layout that included:
• Design of racking systems
• Design of marshalling and staging areas,
• Number and positions of inbound/outbound docks,
• Positions of auxiliary areas,
• Orientation of the storage aisles,
• Goods flow from and to the production facilities.
In addition, SNS handled the communication with the civil architect to guarantee the feasibility of the new design.
"From our very first meeting with SNS, we were impressed by their professionalism as well as their understanding of the warehousing field, especially in the local market," said Mahmoud Anzarouti, President and Chairman of KATAKIT. "The quality of their deliverables has assured us that we have selected the right partner to help us achieve our full potential."
"We are very pleased to have entered the Syrian market and with a client of the size and reputation of KATAKIT," said Mario Ghosn, General Manager of SNS. "We are confident that our relationship with them will be a long and fruitful one."
