Six-Day Theatre Festival commenced at LPU

National level theatre groups from different states & cities are participating with six prominent plays. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) August 23, 2016 - Lovely Professional University is organizing six-day theatre festival "Natya Mahotsav", where 6 prominent national level plays will be performed at LPU Campus. Today, Vibha Rani written and Ravi Mohan directed inaugural play 'Dusra Aadmi, Dusri Aurat' was enacted by the artists of Raas Kala Manch (Haryana). Exhibiting the contemporary period, the play was staged to a packed audience at Shanti Devi Mittal auditorium, where LPU students of Performing Arts department are especially learning diverse theatrical skills from the national artists of different groups.

The other participating theatre groups are Vihan Drama (Bhopal), Manch Rangmanch (Amritsar); Abhinay Rangmanch (Hisar); Roopak Kala Manch (Mohali) and Sarthak Rangmanch (Patiala). LPU Director General, Er HR Singla inaugurated the festival and wished all the best to all the artists to come out with marvelous performances. Manch Rangmanch (Amritsar) will present next play 'Kis Thagg Ne Lutya Shehr' on 24th August 2016.

Elaborating on the concept of the play, the director informed: "The play focuses on extra-marital affairs and live-in relationships. These relationships shine only for a time and later on start fading." Director Ravi Mohan played the male lead, whereas, Dr Madhu Deep Singh played the female protagonist. The play laments that in today's world joint families are breaking and everyone is searching a new relationship, which does not carry any respect or existence. Westernization has affected Indian culture." Prior to this, 'Raas Kala Manch' has participated in various national theatre festivals and successfully presented various plays under socially useful themes.

One of the Performing Arts students, Shobhna shares: "We are lucky to have so many national level artists to perform live on the university stage. We have got a chance to understand stage & light arrangements, dialogue deliveries, actions and more. We are also getting vivid knowledge about renowned theatre personalities Habib Tanveer, Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Nirmal Pandey and more who reached at the peak of excellence in theatre work and who are an inspiring source for novice like us."

As per the story of the play, it is beautifully conveyed that "at times we feel like having something special when we get bored in our lives". The heroine of the play "Shoma" (played by Dr Madhudeep Singh) migrates to Mumbai to lead a carefree and independent life. There she comes across one of her colleagues, Sambhav Singh (played by Ravi Mohan Ras). Both fall in love, and seek satisfaction in both emotional and physical relationships. However, both of them are married and have their own families. Shoma finds this relationship more interesting than her own marriage. Sambhav respects her, her feelings, her liking and everything she wanted from her husband. Gradually, Shoma feels, she can never get respect and recognition as a wife does. Shoma always finds that she is "just-another-women" for Sambhav, which bothers her a lot. Sambhav hates her psycho-maniac behaviour and gets fed up. In the end, Shoma takes a leave from office for a month and gets back to her own life, where there is no Sambhav. She owns her own responsibilities and her daughter and finds it satisfactory. However, writer wants to convey that Shoma and Sambhav are not character-less. They are the victims of their own temporary desires. We all have Shoma and Sambhav in us. Every man, who is victim of such emotional games of life, is a 'Doosra Aadmi' and a 'Doosri Aurat'.
