Sir Victor Uwaifo Serenades Gulder Ultimate Search 8 Champions
Gulder Ultimate Search 8 Champions continue their tour to Edo state.
- (1888PressRelease) February 22, 2012 - The Gulder Ultimate Search 8 Champions, who recently toured Edo State, were treated to a warm reception at the Revelation Tourist Palazzo. The Revelation Tourist Palazzo, founded by Nigerian highlife musical maestro, Sir Victor Uwaifo, is a tourist resort which houses sculptural works, paintings and other artworks of the musical legend.
The 10 Champions of Gulder Ultimate Search 8 who visited Sir Uwaifo were: Christopher Okagbue, Anastasia Azike, Kevin Durst, Anthony Igwe, Tony Horsfall, Fejiro Ejogbamu, Peace Ojiegbe, Sunday Gyang, Olanrewaju Alawoki and Patience Ihongbe. The 10 Champions were also accompanied by Mr. Bob Manuel Udokwu, the show's co-anchor. They were received at the Palazzo by Sir Uwaifo himself, who thanked the contingent for taking out time to pay him a visit.
When asked where he found the time to compose music in addition to painting, sculpting and lecturing at the University of Benin, Sir Uwaifo answered that it could be achieved if one sets his or her priorities right. He said: "I run after time. I bring whatever I think of immediately into action. Don't allow time to overtake you, because if you waste time it will overtake you. Once you have an idea, put it down and move immediately to implement it. If you want to be a successful person, don't wait till you have everything. Just start."
When asked if he truly met a mermaid which inspired his musical hit, "Guitar Boy", he affirmed that that he did. He recalled: "Yes, I truly met a mermaid. In those days, I used to go to the Bar Beach in Lagos for inspiration. On this particular evening, I went to the beach with my camp bed. I saw the mermaid and I vividly recalled that she called out my name. Yes, it's true that I met a mermaid."
The GUS 8 Champions also had the privilege of being serenaded by Sir Victor Uwaifo to rhythms from his guitar. He had earlier promised that the tour of the Palazzo would enrich the Champions' knowledge of the Benin Kingdom.
The visit to the Palazzo also afforded the Champions the opportunity of visiting Sir Uwaifo's musical studio where they swayed to the rhythms of his past musical hits.
Miss Patience Ihongbe, the GUS 8 Champion that emerged from Edo State thanked Sir Uwaifo for hosting the GUS 8 contingent. She said: "This visit has given us more insight into the personality of Sir Victor Uwaifo. We thank you for this knowledge enriching experience. We have been able to know more about the Benin kingdom. We have also been exposed to your musical works. On behalf of Nigerian Breweries Plc, manufacturers of Gulder beer, we thank you for this visit."
Also during the Edo State tour, the GUS 8 Champions stormed Perfect Place and Tips Carwash and Bar; where Gulder activations were held. This visit afforded the Champions opportunities to connect with fans who were ardent lovers of the show while it was broadcast on TV from September to December last year. A lucky female fan, Joy Ekosin, had the opportunity of dining with Christopher Okagbue, the winner of Gulder Ultimate Search 8. She had earlier called into a special radio programme which featured all the 10 GUS 8 Champions.
The GUS 8 Champions' tour of Edo state was in honour of Patience Ihongbe, who hails from the state. The Champions had toured Oyo State earlier. From Edo State, the GUS 8 Champions will proceed to Delta, Anambra, Rivers and then Lagos States.
