Sir Bruno Serato to be Inducted into Restaurant Hall of Fame
Distinguished Restaurants of North America Recognizes Humanitarian’s Efforts To Feed Hungry Children.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) January 24, 2018 - Joining the ranks of other restaurant industry greats including Ella Brennan, the 92-year-old owner of Commander’s Palace, Ted Balestreri of Cannery Row in Monterrey and Ruth Fertel, founder of Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Sir Bruno Serato of the Anaheim White House will be inducted into the Distinguished Restaurants of North America Hall of Fame at a ceremony to be held later this year.
Says Scott Breard, the organization’s executive director, “Sir Bruno’s years of philanthropic work, especially providing meals to children in his community and around the world, set the stage for his induction into the DiRōNA Hall of Fame. We are delighted to recognize his continued efforts and look forward to presenting the award to him later this year.”
The Huntington Beach resident will be honored alongside Richard Gonzmart of the Columbia Restaurant Group in Tampa, FL. The luncheon ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 20th at the Union League Club in Chicago.
Serato founded the nonprofit Caterina’s Club in 2005 to feed local children who, up until then, had gone to bed without dinner since most live in cheap, squalid motels without kitchens. Today, the group serves pasta each night in 62 locations in Orange and LA counties with more 1.9 million meals served to date. His influence has extended far beyond the local area as other chefs in the U.S. and abroad including those in Chicago, New York, Texas, Mexico and Italy who learned of the program have begun feeding the hungry in their communities. The nonprofit also has helped scores of families escape motel living by securing apartments for them. In addition, Serato in concert with the city of Anaheim, established the Hospitality Academy to help at-risk youth explore careers in restaurants and hotels.
In addition to being the subject of worldwide publicity, Serato has been knighted by the Italian government, received a papal blessing from Pope Francis, a humanitarian award on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, received numerous proclamations, Man of the Year awards and other forms of recognition -- all of which he has accepted to generate public awareness of hunger in our communities.
