- (1888PressRelease) March 29, 2013 - London, United Kingdom - From the 8th of March, workers are entitled to 18 weeks of unpaid parental leave instead of the previous 13 weeks, in accordance with the revised Parental Leave Directive. While this new EU Directive was brought into force last year, the Government used the year's grace period as granted by the Directive; industry experts expect further changes to family-related leave as of 2015.
While the Directive allows a parent to take up to 18 weeks' unpaid leave, this must be taken during the first five years of the child's life. For adoptive parents, the parental leave must be taken within five years of the adoption or before the child's 18th birthday, depending on which is sooner.
"In response to the new employment legislation, Simply-docs has updated Parental Leave and Harassment/Bullying Policies and related documents," a spokesperson for Simply-docs said. "Whilst the repeal of the unworkable Section 40 of the Equality Act 2010 is a welcome, the increase in eligibility of Parental Leave indicates that, despite Government assurances to reduce red tape, the burden continues to build on UK businesses."
