Silver may attract speculators but gold investors appear to be more interested in the long term.
(1888PressRelease) January 18, 2012 - MIAMI, FL - There are signs that speculators are returning to the silver bullion market, with a rise in net long positions in silver, according to a recent traders' report. Speculators are generally concerned with fairly quick profits and they can affect the investment market accordingly. If they buy at relatively bargain prices, then the price is likely to rise and if they sell once there is a substantial gain, their short-term profit taking can effectively drive the price down again. Gold prices, on the other hand, owe more to physical demand and long-term investment. It appears, from current trends, that those investing in gold are looking at the long-term picture rather than chasing quick profits.
Gold bullion and coins offer wealth protection and an effective hedge against inflation or currency devaluation. They also offer an attractive long-term investment. The past decade has seen a steady yet dramatic increase in the price of gold, which has outperformed virtually every other asset. Gold bullion is portable, tangible and offers a safe haven for wealth protection in times of economic uncertainty, and there have been many of those in the past eleven years! "Of course, it is possible to make money buying and selling gold," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "If you time your trades just right, buy the dips and sell when the price rebounds, then you will likely end up making money. However, most investors who are buying gold bullion have the intention of keeping their investment for a fair while. They are more likely to be looking at the long term and are consequently not particularly worried by short-term fluctuations in the market."
