Siemens ePen wins international product award

A discreet remote control for adjusting the volume and programs of hearing instruments has been given an international red dot award for outstanding product design.
The ePen™ from Siemens Hearing Instruments is shaped like a fountain pen and was judged on degree of innovation, functionality and symbolic standing, fending off thousands of entries.
The ePen allows users to adjust the volume and programs of their hearing instruments by twisting the bottom of the ePen, or pressing the relevant buttons in the hiden control section. You can also turn the hearing instruments on and off using this innovative remote control.
Its subtle approach and discreet design impressed a panel of experts who judged products on criteria such as emotional content and self-explanatory qualities.
This year's awards saw more than 4000 entries and 1600 participants from 57 countries. The red dot accolade will be presented to Siemens at a gala event in Essen, Germany on the 5th July and is the ePen's second award for outstanding design as it also received the 2010 Product Design Award.
