Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan Remembers Chief Architect of Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar
No one needs to guess as to who would have said these thunderbolt words "Transformation of the individual by education is precursor to social and economic transformation of society at large."
- (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2011 - Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (1891 - 1956) will always be remembered as one who did his best to turn the Wheel of the Law toward Social Justice for all. While many parts of India celebrated April 14, 2010 as the new year day, it is a significant day for all Indians as it is the birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar who is globally known as the 'Father of India's constitution'.
He firmly believed in a society built on the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity. His passion for justice was intense to the extent that in 1951 he did not hesitate to resign from his position as the country's first minister of law when Nehru's cabinet did not give consent to pass the Hindu Code Bill which included social and economic rights for women.
Ambedkar had his education at Bombay University, top ranking Columbia University as well as London School of Economics. In 1952, Columbia presented him with an honorary doctorate for his service as "a great social reformer and a valiant upholder of human rights." Ambedkar who had taken German as a minor at Columbia is also said to have visited University of Bonn Germany in 1921 with the intention of working under Prof Jacobi.
At Columbia where undoubtedly he had experienced social equality for the first time, Ambedkar had studied under John Dewey, who inspired many of his ideas about equality and social justice. Considering that Ambedkar is one of its most remarkable international alumni, Columbia University instituted a Dr B R Ambedkar Chair at its law school in the year 2010 to mark his birth anniversary.
Ambedkar is indeed a leader who knew the way, went the way and also showed the way. On 14 April 2011 which marks the 120th birth anniversary of a great son of India, Prof BR Natarajan Pro Vice Chancellor urged the students and faculty of Way to Transform Shridhar University Pilani Rajasthan to take inspiration from the dedication of the Champion of Human Rights Babasaheb Ambedkar who is also the chief architect of the Constitution of India.
