Shaun De Graff Releases An Album of Eclectic Pop Sounds

'My songs range from soft and sweet to hard and aggressive', the Las Vegas native says and it's evident in his compilation, 'Grey Area'. His brand of music is reminiscent of Imogen Heap, Owl City, and Beardyman. But before Shaun got to this place of ethereal music-making, he paid his dues - big time. As a young child, he discovered his love for music, thanks to R&B greats Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Donnie Hathaway, and especially Stevie Wonder. At 14, Shaun begged his parents for a piano and when he got it, he has never stopped playing on it since. Whether organic or electric, tickling the ivories has been his forte, and he continuously uses the piano to produce tunes that are synth-heavy harmonizing with modern melodies. Shaun then got exposed to the b-boy culture, imbibing breakdance's music and culture. He learned to spit out rhymes a la hip-hop emcees like Grandmaster Mele-Mel and KRS-1. Mixing that with the styles of piano virtuosos Herbie Hancock and George Duke, what comes out are eclectic, unpredictable, and powerful tunes.
But there were stumbling blocks: a doctor told Shaun that he has an illness that could prevent him from playing the piano and unfortunately, his mother passed away - his number one fan. Down and out, he fell into a deep depression, abused substances, and forgot about making music altogether. But Shaun had a dream and it woke him up, re-ignited his passion, and so he cleaned himself up, managed his illness, and returned to music. Shaun toured around the world, performed for the USO, gained many awards for his work, and in 2009, performed live with talented musicians Regina Spektor, The Eels, Chaka Khan, and his idol, Stevie Wonder. Shaun has come full circle, and he will keep at it until there's music to be made and people listening to it.
Shaun De Graff is a singing, songwriting, beatboxing producer-musician that fuses organic music with technology. His live performances are worth being there for, and his single 'You Had Me At Goodbye' has been used in the end credits of the motion picture 'The List'.
