Shane Collins, a 12-year veteran of the additive manufacturing industry, has been hired by Directed MFG Inc. as Managing Director.
- (1888PressRelease) February 17, 2011 - North Austin, TX - Shane Collins, a 12-year veteran of the additive manufacturing industry, has been hired by Directed MFG Inc. as Managing Director.
Shane's experience in the additive manufacturing industry is vast, and includes employment with leading machine manufacturers, including 3D Systems, EOS and Arcam, and he is a past recipient of the "Innovation of the Year" engineering award from 3D Systems.
As Managing Director, Shane will be responsible for overseeing the top-level daily operations to ensure we exceed our demanding customer expectations for quality, value and on-time deliveries.
Other responsibilities include research, and test and evaluation of materials and processes that will push the boundaries of additive manufacturing technology for metals and polymers for unique customer solutions.
Shane has co-authored several publications in the area of additive manufacturing titanium and cobalt chrome alloys and is actively engaged with the ASTM F42 committee where he currently chairs the Process subcommittee, F42.02. He has several ASTM work items in committee that, once approved, will allow engineers and designers to order additively manufactured parts with the confidence that the manufacturing process has the controls of traditional and accepted manufacturing methods.
Directed MFG has been in business for five years, and operates both EOS and 3D Systems laser sintering equipment to manufacture prototype and production components in plastic and fully dense alloys.
In 1997, DMI became the first service provider in the world to commercially process Nylon 11 in an EOS large-platform sintering system. In 2009, DMI was nominated for "Small Business of the Year" by Northrop Grumman Corp.
