SGS Updates on Regulatory Framework Changes in the United Arab Emirates

- (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2022 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has issued updated guidance on essential compliance bodies and processes for regulated products sold in UAE markets.
In July 2020, the establishment of a Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) replaced the existing framework of UAE governmental provision for ensuring product quality standards in the country. This new ministry merged the Office of the Minister of State for Advanced Technology, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology and the industry sector of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
The new MoIAT is now responsible for the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS) and the Emirates Quality Mark (EQM). Products regulated under these schemes must undergo conformity assessment, which if successful, will result in the issuance of a Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
SGS, as an approved Notified Body, has been appointed by the MoIAT to provide these assessments and issue CoCs. Assistance is available throughout the certification process, including advice on documentation, provision of sampling, testing and analysis in ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories.
