SGS summarizes update to fire safety for candles standard - ASTM F2417
SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at a recent update to the general requirements in ASTM F2417 – fire safety for candles.
- (1888PressRelease) November 10, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 119.23 to help stakeholders understand a recent update to the ASTM standard for fire safety in candles.
ASTM F2417 sets out set out minimum safety requirements for candles and candle ensembles under normal use. The aim is to improve personal safety by reducing the risk of fires, deaths and injuries.
The recent update, published in August 2023, differs from the 2016 iteration in a number of ways. While the majority of the tests remain equivalent, the general requirements that have been updated to include:
• New definition for candle marking kit
• Suggestions for practices relating to candle-making kits
• New safety requirements for wick migration and wick leaning
SGS has published SafeGuardS 119.23 to help stakeholders understand these changes. It includes mores details of the practices relating to candle-making kits and the wick safety requirements. In addition, it sets out the definition for candle-making kit.
