SGS Summarizes Ukrainian Regulation on Food Contact Plastics

SGS publishes SafeGuardS on Ukraine’s approval of national requirements for food contact plastics. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) March 09, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an overview of Ukraine’s national requirements for food contact plastics.

The country’s Ministry of Health issued two pieces of legislation in the official gazette on February 9, 2024. These were:
• Order No. 2104 of December 11, 2023, on the approval of ‘Special requirements for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs’ (Order 2104/2023)
• Order No. 11 of January 2, 2024, to revise Order 2104/2023, with editorial changes for clarity (Order 11/2024)

Order 2104/2023 details a comprehensive set of special requirements for food contact plastics by implementing the European Union’s Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2023/1442.

They will apply from November 19, 2025, which is the same day as the nation’s law on food contact materials and articles. However, food contact plastics manufactured before November 19, 2025, will be allowed to remain in circulation until stocks are exhausted.
