SGS Summarizes Swiss Ban on PFHxS and PFHxS-Related Compounds
SGS publishes SafeGuardS covering Switzerland’s ban on the manufacture and use of PFHxS, its salts and PFHxS-related compounds, which came into effect in November 2023.
- (1888PressRelease) April 27, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 059.24 to keep stakeholders up to date with changes to Switzerland’s regulations on persistent organic pollutants (POP).
POP are regulated under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP Convention, RS/SR 0.814.03) in Switzerland. In March 2024, perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), its salts and PFHxS-related compounds were added to the list of substances for elimination under Part 1 of Appendix A in the nation’s regulation. This follows Decision No SC-10/13 of the Conference of the Parties, with the change being instigated by RO 2024/113.
The ban affects the production and use of these substances and came into effect on November 16, 2023. The prohibition has no derogations.
