SGS Summarizes South Korean Revision to Food Contact Material Standards
SGS publishes overview of South Korean revision to standards and specifications for food contact materials and articles, which came into effect on June 21, 2024.
- (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS on South Korea’s revision of its national standards and specifications for food contact materials and articles.
The South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2024-29 on June 21, 2024, to partially revise ‘Standards and Specifications for Utensils, Containers and Packaging’. This essentially implements Public Notice No. 2024-97, which had been announced in March 2024.
The amendment includes two clarifications:
• That the requirement of less than 0.1% lead used in the manufacture or repair of the food contact parts in utensils, containers and packaging includes solder
• That if the material and color of the main body and accessories are identical, testing is to be conducted on the main body
The amendment came into effect on the date of publication, June 21, 2024.
