  • (1888PressRelease) February 17, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 026.24 to provide stakeholders with an overview of Malaysia’s new order on the marking of quantity on pre-packaged goods.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living issued Trade Descriptions (Marking of Quantity for Pre-Packaged Goods) Order 2023 on September 21, 2023.

The main changes in the new order:
    1. Interpretations of pre-packaged goods and related measurements have been combined into one clause under paragraph 4 ‘Declaration of quantity for pre-packaged goods’
    2. Wholesalers, manufacturers, importers and producers are now required to declare the quantity of pre-packaged goods in a package
    3. Marking requirements for appropriate indication of goods and name and address of manufacturer and importer have been removed

The new order will replace the current Trade Descriptions (Marking of Pre-Packaged Goods) Order 2023 on June 4, 2024. With the exception of the above changes, the new order is substantially the same as the previous order.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory and market changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 026.24 provides a summary of the new order and includes more details of the requirements for labeling pre-packaged goods.

Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 026.24 for more information on marking requirements for pre-packaged goods in Malaysia.
