SGS Summarizes EU Revision to CLP Regulation on Substances and Mixtures

SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at the EU’s recent amendment to its CLP Regulation. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) January 30, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS detailing the European Union’s amendment to Regulation (EU) No. 1272/2008 on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation).

Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/197 was issued on January 5, 2024. It contains several important changes to Table 3 in Part 3 of Annex VI to the CLP Regulation. These include:
• Adding 28 new entries, including:
o Bisphenol AF (BPAF)
o Dibutyltin maleate
o Dibutyltin oxide
o Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEO, with an average molecular weight of no more than 1,540 g/mol)
• Replacing 24 entries, including:
o Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) – a substance with a new carcinogenic 1B classification

The amendment came into force on January 25, 2024. It will apply from September 1, 2025, but stakeholders can classify, label and package substances and mixtures in accordance with this amendment before this date.
