SGS summarizes CPSC direct final rule for button cell or coin batteries
SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at US CPSC direct final rule for button cell or coin batteries and consumer products containing such batteries.
- (1888PressRelease) October 18, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help stakeholders understand the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s direct final rule for button cell or coin batteries, and consumer products that contain them.
Direct final rule 16 CFR 1263 was published on September 21, 2023. It establishes a safety standard to eliminate or adequately reduce the risk of injury or death associated with ingestion of these batteries by children aged six years or under. It incorporates ANSI/UL 4200A-2023 (Standard for Safety for Products Incorporating Button Batteries or Coin Cell Batteries).
SGS has published SafeGuardS 127.23 to provide an overview of the new rule, which is required under Reese’s Law. It includes details of the effective date and an enforcement discretion period that will run until March 19, 2024.
Stakeholders should review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 127.23 for more information.
