SGS SafeGuardS Summarizes Repeal of Czech Republic Toy and Children’s Product Legislation
SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at recent changes to toy and children’s product regulations in the Czech Republic.
- (1888PressRelease) August 23, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, publishes SafeGuardS covering the Czech Republic’s repeal of a decree relating to hygiene requirements for toys and children’s products.
The Czech Republic established hygiene requirements for toys and products for children under three years of age in 2001. Entitled Decree of the Ministry of Health No. 84/2001 Coll, it contained:
• Restrictions on pathogenic micro-organisms
• Requirements for AZO-dyes, phthalates, heavy metals, etc.
• Requirements to make colored and finished materials resistant to sweat and saliva
Decree 84/2001 was later amended by Decree 521/2005.
Both decrees were repealed on July 1, 2023, following the issuing of Act No. 167/2023 in June 2023.
Stakeholders should be aware that with the repealing of Decrees 84/2001 and 521/2005 the Czech Republic no longer enforces additional national requirements for toy safety. However, products must still conform to EU Directive 2009/48/EC, often called the EU Toy Directive. A Czech transposition of the directive can be found in Government Regulation No. 86/2011 Coll.
