SGS SafeGuardS Details New Turkish Rules for Hazardous Substances in Electrical Equipment

SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at recent changes to Turkish rules for some hazardous substances in EEE. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) July 15, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an overview of new Turkish restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

SafeGuardS 080.23 looks at Regulation on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electronic Equipment, which was published by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change on December 26, 2022. This determines the procedures and principles for restricting the use of harmful substances in EEE in order to protect human health and the environment.

Manufacturers of the following EEE will find their products come within the scope of the regulation:
• Large household appliances
• Small household appliances
• IT and telecommunications equipment
• Consumer electronics
• Lighting equipment
• Electrical and electronic tools
• Toys, leisure and sports equipment
• Medical devices
• Monitoring and control instruments, including industrial monitoring and control instruments
• Automatic dispensers
• Other EEE not covered by any of the categories above

SGS has published SafeGuardS 080.23 to help stakeholders understand the full scope of the regulation, provisions for restrictions, exemptions, economic operator responsibilities and the EU declaration of conformity (DoC) form that has been created in Annex 5. There is also a table of phthalate group restrictions with maximum concentration levels and details of the dates when the various provisions enter into force.
