SGS Publishes SafeGuardS on Changes to Indian Footwear Requirements
SGS publishes an overview of changes being brought in by Indian authorities in relation to footwear.
- (1888PressRelease) September 30, 2022 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is reminding stakeholders that Footwear Made from Leather and Other Materials (Quality Control) Order, 2022, requiring mandatory compliance with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has been deferred until July 1, 2023.
Under the terms of the Quality Control Order (QCO) all footwear manufacturers must obtain a BIS certificate and footwear must comply with Indian Standards (IS) and should bear the Standard Mark under licence from the BIS. This applies to all shoes that are made or imported into India.
Stakeholders should also be aware the following footwear styles are now also included in the list of shoes requiring mandatory compliance:
• Derby shoes – IS 17043
• Sports footwear – IS 15844
These standards contain safety requirements relating to mechanical and physical properties, as well as chemical requirements (recently updated).
SGS has published SafeGuardS 107.22 to help stakeholders understand the new regulations. It includes details of the chemical requirements relating to Derby shoes and Sports footwear.
For more information, stakeholders should review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 107.22.
