SGS publishes overview of possible new US safety standard for nursing pillows
SGS looks at US CPSC notice of proposed rulemaking to establish a safety rule for nursing pillows.
- (1888PressRelease) October 18, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, looks at the notice of proposed rulemaking (NPR) to establish a safety rule for nursing pillows published by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The NPR (16 CFR 1242) was issued on September 26, 2023. It aims to reduce the risk associated with the use of nursing pillows – suffocation, entrapment and fall hazards – for sleeping or unattended infants.
Nursing pillows are defined as, “any product intended, marketed, or designed to position and support an infant close to a caregiver's body while breastfeeding or bottle feeding. These products rest upon, wrap around or are worn by a caregiver in a seated or reclined position.”
SGS has published SafeGuardS 125.23 to help stakeholders stay informed about changes that may affect their products. In addition to a list of the requirements listed in the NPR, there is also a list of exempted products – maternity pillows and sling carriers.
Stakeholders are advised to review SafeGuardS 125.23 for more information.
Interested parties are invited to submit their comments on the NPR by November 27, 2023.
