SGS Publishes Overview of New Chinese Footwear Sizing Product Standard
SGS publishes SafeGuard looking at China’s new product standard for shoe sizing.
- (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising stakeholders that China will officially implement its new shoe size standard on May 1, 2023.
‘GB/T 43293-2022 Shoe Size’ was issued by the Administration of Market Supervision and Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on October 12, 2022. It applies to all types of footwear and replaces the previous iteration, GB/T 3293.1-1998.
Changes brought in by the new standard include revisions to scope, terms, definitions and the fundamental characteristics of the sizing system. There are also additions, including to the format for marking footwear, and deletions, including to the method for determining shoe size.
SGS has published SafeGuardS 001.23 to help manufacturers and retailers understand the changes being introduced by the implementation of GB/T 43293-2022. It includes a table that contains an overview of the main technical requirements in GB/T 43293-2022, including:
• Method for expressing shoe sizing
• Footwear marking format
• Location of marking
• Form of marking
For more information, stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 001.23.
GB/T 43293-2022 is modified from ISO 9407:2019 – Footwear sizing – Mondopoint system of sizing and marking.
