SGS Publishes Helpful Summary of Revision to European Standard EN12790 on Reclined Cradles
SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at the revision of the European standard for reclined cradles – EN 12790.
- (1888PressRelease) April 12, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help stakeholders understand the revised European standard for reclined cradles – EN 12790.
A revision of standard EN 12790:2009 was published in March 2023. It is now split into two parts, each covering a different range of products:
• Part 1 – reclined cradles for children up to when they start trying to sit up (corresponds to EN 12790:2009)
• Part 2 – reclined cradles for children up to when they start to stand up, introducing more stringent requirements and tests
SGS has published SafeGuardS 041.23 to help stakeholders understand the changes introduced by the revision. The SafeGuardS includes details of the expansion in scope in Part 2 and the changes implemented in Part 1.
Interested parties are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 041.23 to learn more about the revisions.
Stakeholders should be aware EN 12790-2 can only be applied in combination with EN 12790-1. It was introduced to broaden the scope of the standard and considers the real use of these products by older children. They should also be aware these revisions may affect compliance.
Member states are required to publish the revised standard by September 2023 and withdraw conflicting national standards by March 2024.
