SGS Opens Expanded State-of-the-Art Textile and Footwear Testing Laboratory in Dhaka, Bangladesh
SGS has opened its newly expanded textile and footwear testing facility in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The expanded laboratory provides the full range of physical and chemical testing capabilities to comply with domestic and international standards.
- (1888PressRelease) November 15, 2017 - SGS has formally announced the opening of expanded textile and footwear testing facilities in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The newly expanded, state-of-the-art laboratory was unveiled at a special opening ceremony on November 1, 2017. The new facilities offer customers a full range of services for the textile and footwear industries, providing stakeholders with quality assurance from development to final product.
The opening ceremony was attended by SGS Executive Vice President Richard Shentu and Global Softlines Vice President Spencer Yeung, as well as the company’s local Managing Director Olivier Bornand and Business Manager Abdur Rashid.
Textile and apparel make up more than 80% of Bangladesh’s total exports, according to the BGMEA, and, during the last decade, the leather and footwear sector has grown by more than 1000%. The opening of these new facilities will allow SGS to work with their customers at a much deeper level. The facility, with both physical and chemical testing capabilities, will give Bangladesh’s industry better access to domestic and international markets.
Commenting during the ceremony, Mr. Shentu said: “SGS is committed to investing in world-class testing facilities and Bangladesh is an important market for us. With a burgeoning textile, leather and footwear sector, serving domestic and international markets, it is important for manufacturers to have access to the best testing facilities. SGS’s investment at Dhaka ensures that our testing laboratory is capable of performing the right physical and chemical tests for international and national standards.”
With a second testing laboratory in Chittagong, SGS provides high quality consumer product testing services throughout Bangladesh. In July, they hosted a series of five seminars to help Bangladesh’s industry suppliers understand the zero discharge goal, and waste water and sludge.
