SGS Launches SGS Eco Product Certificate (Eco Mark) for Televisions
SGS has introduced its new SGS Eco Product Certificate (Eco Mark), allowing companies to promote their environmentally friendly products onto a global market. The first Eco Mark was awarded to LG Display for its new OLED display module for televisions.

Manufacturers of electrical and electronic (EE) products need to show their products reduce the use of hazardous substances, improved resource and energy efficiency, and can be more easily recycled.
Until now, companies have tended to rely upon either country-specific eco-friendly certification schemes, meaning markets can be potentially restricted. A global manufacturer needs a dedicated global solution, which is why SGS has introduced the SGS Eco Product Certificate.
The SGS Eco Product Certification program helps electronics manufacturers demonstrate their products environmentally friendly features. SGS is the world’s largest tester and certifier of environmentally friendly products, meaning it has the experience to create a scheme which is globally recognized and trusted.
SGS has now issued its first certificate to LG Display for its OLED display module for televisions. During development, LG Display chose to work with SGS to help develop the eco-certification scheme. Upon completion of the standard, LG Display then applied for and received certification, meaning it can display the SGS Eco Mark.
LG Display could show its OLED technology actively eliminated parts containing hazardous substances, such as cadmium (Cd). In addition, LG Display removed the backlight and replaced it with a self-luminous display, helping designers achieve a lightweight and slim design, that used less parts and attained greater resource efficiency and recycle rates.
Lee Sang-soo, director of LG Display Basic Technology Research, said, "This certification has elevated the eco-friendly leadership of the products of LG Display in the face of increased market demand for environmentally friendly products and environmental regulations on product. We will continue to make efforts to improve environment-friendliness.”
SGS Eco Certification can be used for a variety of products, including air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators and vacuum cleaners.
