SGS Issues SafeGuardS to Help Operators in Maine, USA, Understand Changes to PFAS Rules

SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at recent changes to Maine’s PFAS rules. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) July 13, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS detailing amendments to the state of Maine’s statute relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Law LD 217 was signed into law on June 8, 2023. It clarifies and improves the provisions in 38 M.R.S. §1614 ‘Products Containing PFAS’, for which the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is currently working on finalizing a rule. This rule would clarify disclosure requirements and establish a virtual notification tool.

SGS has published SafeGuardS 073.23 to give stakeholders an overview of the changes made by LD 217. These include a postponed disclosure deadline, more flexibility on certain reporting details and an added exemption for used products.

Changes brought in by LD 217 have been retroactively applied to the law from January 1, 2023.
