  • (1888PressRelease) August 22, 2018 - SGS is inviting toy manufacturers, retailers and importers to sign-up to its complimentary professional training webinars to gain insight into, and put into practice, recent changes to toy requirements for the European market.

Both chemical and physical/mechanical toy requirements have been strengthened. Physical/mechanical changes include new requirements for projectiles and cords in the EN 71-1 standard. For chemicals, Europe’s Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC (TSD) set new migration limits for lead. Since the publication of the EN 71-3:2013 standard there have been three amendments.

SGS will host two live webinars designed to ensure that toys meet the complex requirements of the TSD, as well as highlighting major improvements to EN 71-1 and EN 71-3:

    • September 6: Changes to physical and mechanical requirements for the European market - to facilitate the compliance journey for toys moving onto EU markets
    • September 20: Changes to chemical toy requirements for the European market - to facilitate the compliance journey for toys in the EU

The webinars are led by SGS experts Sanda Stefanovic – a member of the European toy standardization committee since 1990 and leader of the SGS toy technical committee with responsibility for the harmonization and development of 24 SGS toy laboratories around the world; and Hing Wo Tsang who has supported a range of initiatives from product compliance to regional projects and is a member of SGS’s chemical sub-group for toy safety.
