SGS in Colombia is Accredited to Certify EE Products Against Peru’s New Energy Labeling Regulations
Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has recognized SGS to certify electrical and electronic consumer products against new energy labeling requirements.
- (1888PressRelease) October 30, 2019 - Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has recognized SGS to certify electrical and electronic (EE) consumer products against new energy labeling requirements that come into force on April 7, 2020.
As an approved testing lab facility, SGS´s laboratories are best placed to ensure manufacturers and suppliers gain compliance in readiness for the new standards designed to ensure consumers are better able to make informed decisions on their product purchases.
Announced in April 2017, the requirements established within the Technical Regulation on the Energy Efficiency Labeling of Energy Using Equipment No. 009-2017-EM, first announced in April 2018, was due to enter into effect in April 2019. However, this has been delayed until April 7, 2020, in accordance with Supreme Decree No. 009-2019-EM.
Cesar Melendez, Technical Supervisor, SGS, said: “Our advice to manufacturers and suppliers of electrical domestic products is to seek early certification for their products from a Certified Body (CB) to ensure continued access to the Peruvian market. This is more pressing in the knowledge that applicable products already on sale before the effective dates, must comply with the regulations at the point of sale.”
Peru’s Technical Regulation covers a wide variety of domestic products:
• Refrigeration appliances
• Washing machines
• Tumble dryers
• Air conditioning equipment
• Instantaneous and tank electrical water heaters
• Instantaneous and tank gas water heaters
• Lamps for domestic use (LED, fluorescents and incandescents)
• Electrical engines
• Electrical & electronic ballast
• Industrial boilers
SGS has been accredited to certify consumer products including:
• Refrigeration appliances
• Washing machines
• Tumble Dryers
• Air conditioning equipment
• Instantaneous and tank electrical water heaters
• Instantaneous and tank gas water heaters
• Lamps for domestic use (LED and fluorescents)
Nine draft technical regulations on energy efficiency labeling of energy using products published by the authorities detail the mandatory energy efficiency information that must be included on product energy labels, packaging and in advertising. Products must be evaluated using specifications in the applicable annexes. The product must then be marked with the appropriate new energy label, with certification issued by an accredited Certified Body (CB).
