  • (1888PressRelease) October 31, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS reporting on Australia’s proposal to list several chemicals on the IChEMS Register.

Australia’s Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management (Register) Instrument of 2022 (IChEMS Register) assigns chemicals to one of seven schedules based on their risk characteristics.

The proposed industrial chemicals/groups of chemicals to be added to the register are:
    • Hexachlorobenzene (HCB)
    • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
    • Polychlorinated terphenyls (PCTs)
    • Lauryl (dodecyl) sulfates
    • Linear alkylbenzene sulfonates

Announced by the country’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the proposals were open for consultation until October 25, 2024.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulations that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 154.24 contains more details of the IChEMS Register Schedule numbers to which the proposed chemicals will be added, and a useful table with scope, requirements and proposed effective dates for the additions.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 154.24 for more details.
