SGS Helps Manufacturers Differentiate Their Products in the Natural Cosmetics Market
SGS publishes an overview of the natural and organic cosmetic products market, looking at the advantages of NATRUE accreditation and recent changes concerning raw materials.
- (1888PressRelease) February 09, 2021 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is helping manufacturers of natural and organic cosmetic products gain a better understanding of the benefits of NATRUE accreditation.
Consumers are increasingly looking for cosmetic products that are natural and/or organic. It is estimated the growing market for natural cosmetic products be worth USD 57 billion by 2027. For consumers, the difficulty is knowing when a product is truly natural.
The NATRUE label and standard can help manufacturers differentiate their products in the marketplace. It can be applied to finished products, formulas, or raw ingredients and can either be in the form of certification or approval. In the case of finished products, manufacturers and brands can only seek certification for their products.
Since January 2020, raw materials have been eligible for the approval scheme. Stakeholders should be aware of the following transition deadlines:
• January 31, 2022 – producers of raw materials currently used in NATRUE certified finished products must have transitioned to either certification or approval
• February 1, 2020 – producers of finished products must only include NATRUE certified or approved raw materials in their formulations
SGS’s Consumer Compact article looks at the growing interest in natural and organic cosmetic products, provides an overview of NATRUE accreditation, and explains recent changes regarding raw materials. It is of interest to industry professionals and the general public.
