- (1888PressRelease) May 15, 2018 - A range of baby care products from Little Tree Babycare Co. Ltd, has been awarded a Gold Level Material Health Certificate by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
Achieving the certificate permits the company’s hypoallergenic series: Baby Moisturizing Shampoo, Baby Soothing Body Wash and Head to Toe Baby Bath Foam made with the Natural Essences of Horse Chestnut and Peach to be listed in the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product registry under the Material Health Certificate Program.
SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, were appointed by Little Tree Babycare Co. Ltd, to be its general assessor to evaluate and apply for the certificate at the highest level it could achieve.
Frank Chen, Product Manager, Little Tree Babycare Co. Ltd. said: “In our ambition to continuously improve and demonstrate the safety and good quality of our baby products, we’re heartened to have been awarded the Gold Level Material Health Certificate by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. It demonstrates our commitment to identifying and replacing any chemicals of concern in our products and we look forward to continuing our partnership with SGS as we work towards better quality products.”
SGS assisted with product screening to identify any possible obstacles and determine a potential level of certification, worked together with Little Tree Babycare to collect the products’ chemical information from the supply chain, and partnered with the material health assessment body, MBDC, for the toxicological rating of the baby product formulas to apply for the Material Health Certificate Program.
The Material Health Certificate Program, is valid for a two-year period, awarded at one of four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum to correspond with the level achieved within the Material Health category of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard.
The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Material Health Assessment Methodology is a contextual assessment based on chemical hazard identification and qualitative exposure considerations during a product’s final manufacture, use, and end-of-use. Although a Material Health Certificate does not indicate that a product is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ or has met the requirements in all five categories of the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard, when obtained at the higher levels the certificate indicates the product formula has a lower risk of hazards.
The material health assessment performed on the chemistry of the baby products showed all substances were acceptable for use, with approximately 70% posing no risk for the health of the user or the environment, based on the Cradle to Cradle Material Health Assessment Methodology.
The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product registry, owned by the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Innovation Institute, is a database of products evaluated under the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Standard requirements.
