SGS Details US Ban on Inclined Sleepers for Infants

(1888PressRelease) September 06, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is reminding stakeholders that the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has published a final rule codifying a ban on inclined sleepers for infants.

US President Biden signed the Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2021 on May 16, 2022. Pursuant of that, the CPSC published final rule 16 CFR 1310 to ban inclined sleepers for infants on August 16, 2023.

Stakeholders should be aware that, regardless of the date of manufacture, inclined sleepers for infants are now considered a banned hazardous product under section 8 of the Consumer Product Safety Act.

An infant inclined sleeper is defined as: “a product with an inclined sleep surface greater than ten degrees that is intended, marketed or designed to provide sleeping accommodation for an infant up to one year old.”
