SGS Details Canada’s Proposed Update to Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Regulations
SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at Canadian proposals to update their Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Regulations.
- (1888PressRelease) July 19, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an overview of Canadian proposals to revise their regulations relating to formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products.
A 75-day consultation on the proposed revisions was initiated on June 17, 2023. If accepted, the proposed amendments will impact both the nation’s Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Regulations (SOR/2021-148) and the directive concerning testing for formaldehyde emissions.
The revisions seek to address deficiencies in the current regulation while also allowing alignment with the latest requirements in the US Toxic Substances Control Act Title VI (TSCA Title VI).
SGS has published SafeGuardS 082.23 to help stakeholders understand the impact the changes will have on their industry. It includes a list of the main updates, including a definition for ‘accredited laboratory’ and details of a change to testing requirements, plus clarification of record-keeping requirements for finished goods.
Stakeholders are advised to review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 082.23 to learn more.
Interested parties are able to comment on the proposals until August 31, 2023, and the amendments will come into effect 90 days after being published in Canada Gazette, Part II.
