  • (1888PressRelease) July 11, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a Consumer Compact article looking at the issue of wipe flushability.

A 2016 forensic study of waste at New York City’s Wards Island Wastewater Treatment Facility found the system contained only 2% flushable wipes. Of the rest that wasn’t bodily waste or toilet paper, 98% was non-flushable products – baby wipes, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, etc. This can lead to fatbergs that cost water companies millions of dollars to remove.

SGS’s Consumer Compact article looks at the challenges facing the flushable wipe industry, the legal challenges and the testing solutions available to manufacturers
