Nancy Larson Foundation awards scholarships to hardworking students studying elementary education.
Norwich-New London, CT (1888PressRelease) April 10, 2013 - Seven students across the country have been named Nancy Larson Foundation scholars and each awarded a $1000 scholarship in recognition of their outstanding academic records and community service.
The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students majoring in elementary education across the country by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year.
The seven recipients selected from the hundreds of applicants received by the foundation include:
• Andrea Belsan, Wichita State University
• Kirstin Keller, Kansas State University
• Nanette Lechner, Texas A&M University San Antonio
• Christine Piha, Southern Illinois University Carbondale
• Kelsey Randell, University of Central Arkansas
• Amber Troye, Missouri State University
• LaCrisha Woods, Kansas State University
"These students are the type of aspiring teachers that we want to nurture and support. Our classrooms need intelligent, energetic, young educators that can provide the best possible learning environment for elementary students," said Nancy Larson, who established the foundation in 2006. Nancy is the author of two nationally successful curriculum programs: Nancy Larson® Science and Saxon Math K-4.
Juniors, seniors and graduate students who have declared an elementary education major are invited to submit a personal story about what three traits they believe they have that will make them an excellent teacher. Applicants are also asked to include community service activities and experiences they have had working with children.
Nancy, a former teacher and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Her original Saxon Math K-4 program was developed because teachers needed a classroom tested math program that would prepare children for advanced math classes. In recent years, Nancy has used the same approach to develop Nancy Larson Science for kindergarten through fourth grade students. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
