Serac goes for Agami's Roll N Blow at INTERPACK 2011
Serac of France, a manufacturer of filling and capping machines, will be taking part in the INTERPACK trade show in Düsseldorf (Germany) from 12 to 18 May 2011, where it will showcase French start-up Agami's Roll N Blow thermoforming machine. The machine is designed to produce bottles in a more cost-effective way than traditional methods.
- (1888PressRelease) March 29, 2011 - Roll N Blow, which has been developed by start-up Agami and is distributed by Serac worldwide, will be on display at INTERPACK, in Düsseldorf, between 12 and 18 May of this year (Hall 13, Booth C63/D64). Roll N Blow uses innovative tubular thermoforming technology with reels of plastic sheeting that are extruded flat at high speed. This technology can produce tall, round bottles with capacities of between 100ml and 500ml. This solution is well suited to fresh dairy products, particularly yoghurt drinks, as well as fruit juices.
The raw material comes in the form of plastic sheeting. This sheeting is then cut into strips, and each strip is shaped into a tube around a blow pipe. Each strip is then welded lengthwise and the resulting plastic tube is heated and blown into a mould, in order to create the bottle.
Many types of plastic can be used in thermoforming such as PS, PP, PLA and PET. Using multilayer materials has tangible benefits, as films are extruded flat. Producing very wide plastic films, which are extruded flat at high speed, is also very economical. The plastic is converted from sheet form into bottles in the machine, which generates savings of 30% to 50%.
Using reels of plastic sheeting as the base material also reduces transport and storage costs, as well as costs associated with the handling of bottles or empty preforms, before they are blown up. Where traditionally 25 lorries would be required to supply bottles and five required for supplying preforms, now only one is needed for supplying the reels of plastic sheeting.
Consumption costs are greatly reduced across the board as there are fewer accessories required for production. The plastic blowing is carried out at a low pressure (less than six bars) and at a low temperature (under 150°C). There is no need for a high-pressure compressor; besides, two to three times less electricity is required, as compared to traditional preform blowing.
The Roll N Blow thermoforming machine, which will be on display at INTERPACK 2011, can produce up to 7,000 bottles per hour.
Agami is a start-up partially owned by Serac. A French engineering school graduate, Stylianos Eleftheriou established Agami in May 2009. Serac has a stake in Agami, together with worldwide exclusive distribution rights for the Agami machine.
