Sept 13: Clare Estate to Host Open House During National Assisted Living Week
Public Invited to Attend "Art for the Ages" Exhibit and Discussion.
- Trenton-Ewing, NJ (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2012 - The Clare Estate, a fully licensed assisted living residence owned by Community Investment Strategies (CIS), Inc., is hosting an open house on Thursday, September 13, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in observance of National Assisted Living Week.
During the open house, the public is invited to attend an art exhibit and presentation. Guest speaker Deborah Molinelli, director of activities in memory care for the Clare Estate, will discuss the Montessori approach in activities programming and how art enhances the lives of residents with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Molinelli is a former Montessori school teacher. The exhibit entitled, "Art for the Ages" is a special opportunity to bring together residents, families, employees, volunteers and the surrounding community. It celebrates the artist in everyone, according to Molinelli.
Over 25 pieces of artwork will be exhibited, produced primarily by residents in the memory care unit during the past year. A variety of media were used to craft collages, tie blankets, button art, mandalas, and sculpted flowers. "Different inspiration is used for the broad range of artwork created by residents," said Molinelli. "Many residents are limited in their physical ability so to see them working on their art is really beautiful." Artwork will remain on display at the Clare Estate.
Participants interested in attending the open house must R.S.V.P. by Sept. 10 by calling (609) 298-9960. Refreshments will be served. Tours of the Clare Estate will also be conducted.
"Throughout the year, residents enjoy a variety of ongoing events, activities, and live entertainment that shows them how much we care for them," said Donna Buyukaydin, activities director of Monastery, and program director of Clare's Corner. Clare's Corner is a new social day program at the Clare Estate, which helps bridge the widening gap between at-home and residential senior living. The program offers older adults peer companionship and caregiver respite. Available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Clare's Corner is designed to enrich each participant's life by building upon his or her skills, knowledge and abilities. Diverse programming includes therapeutic art, discussion groups, cultural performances, music appreciation and low-impact exercise. Breakfast and lunch also are included in the modest daily fee.
Established in 2001, The Clare Estate is housed in the former St. Clare's Monastery, located on Crosswicks Street. The community is staffed 24 hours a day by a multi-disciplinary team, including registered and licensed practical nurses, certified medication aides and certified nurse assistants; recreation therapists; and support staff. Residents also enjoy a host of amenities, such as medication management, planned outings to local venues, housekeeping and laundry services, chef-prepared meals and on-site physician services.
