Take a step back into the Wild West at the Cedar Run Rodeo Weekend, August 27-28, where a weekend of professional rodeo competition, live entertainment and fun family events awaits you.
"The popularity of the rodeo is strong and growing in Ontario," says Nicole Paara, Cedar Run director of events & marketing. "We're thrilled to be partnering with the award-winning Rawhide Rodeo Company (www.rawhiderodeo.com) to host an action-packed weekend that combines an extreme sport with fun-filled western activities for people of all ages to enjoy."
Gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday. Highlights of the western-themed weekend include:
· Professional Rodeo - 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday - A true spectator sport featuring cowboys and cowgirls from Brazil, Mexico, the U.S. and Canada who will be vying for coveted world championship points as well as tens of thousands in prize money. Rodeo events include bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, team roping, calf roping, the Canadian cowgirls and more.
· Kid's Hour in the Rodeo Ring - 2:30 p.m. on Saturday - A great opportunity for children of all ages to get in on the action. Activities include learning how to rope a calf, ride a sheep or herd cows; facepainting; cowboy autographs; pony rides and, more.
· Live Entertainment - 3:30 and 7:00p.m. Saturday - Matinee performance by Georgian Bay's Southern Comfort and evening performances by Nicole Scott, the Rockefellers and the Mark Ekins Band.
· Licensed Concession Area - Available throughout the weekend and featuring local cuisine.
A portion of the proceeds from Cedar Run Rodeo Weekend will be used to support Camp Maple Leaf (www.campmapleleaf.net), a year-round camp for military families that enables children to reconnect with parents in a nurturing environment after a tour of duty.
"A rodeo weekend is an ideal way to end your summer on a high note," says Paara. "It's affordable family fun, a bit of Western education and an opportunity for good will all at the same time."

Advance tickets are available until August 26 and can be purchased on-line at www.cedarrun.ca, by calling 519-599-3196 or at the following ticket outlets: Lush Realty in Collingwood; The Tack Shoppe in Nottawa; Riverside Graphics in Clarksburg; Pharmasave in Thornbury; and, Activity Central in Blue Mountain Village. Early Bird ticket prices are: $17 for Adult one-day pass; $12 for Youth and Senior one-day pass; $28 for Adult two-day pass; $18 for Youth two-day pass; and, $45 for a Family Pack (family of four, maximum two adults). Children under 5 are free with the purchase of an Adult ticket.
