Senator Lena A. Gonzalez Secures $3.5 Million in Funding for maintenance needs and capital projects for historic sites Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 21, 2023 - Rancho Los Cerritos (RLC) and Rancho Los Alamitos (RLA) awarded $3.5 million in funding secured by Senator Lena A. Gonzalez from the State of California for much needed maintenance and capital projects.
“Both RLA and RLC boards, staff, and volunteers are thrilled and grateful for the generous award of these funds,” said RLA Executive Director, Pam Lee. “We appreciate this show of support for our mission and commitment to sharing the diverse stories and culture of the people of California.”
Late Spring of 2023, Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos requested $4,000,000 ($2,000,000 each) from the State of California, which upon award would enable the organizations to address public safety, accessibility, and much-needed restoration issues for each historic adobe’s, farm buildings, gardens, and grounds.
“The two Ranchos of Long Beach thank and recognize Senator Lena Gonzalez for her advocacy in helping to direct State of California funds to support Rancho Los Cerritos’ and Rancho Los Alamitos’ capital projects and preservation efforts,” said Alison Bruesehoff, RLC Executive Director. “As with all historic sites, both Ranchos are important to our cultural landscape, and we are honored that the State of California has the confidence to entrust us to be good caretakers of our treasured, historic landmarks.”
The purpose of the two historical sites is to shed light on the evolution of the Southern California region by sharing stories of human connection through public tours, innovative educational programming, and relevant cultural experiences using authentic buildings, grounds, and artifacts from our shared past.

Rancho Los Cerritos (RLC) is a 5 acre historic landmark and museum run by the Rancho Los Cerritos Foundation staff and volunteers in a public/private partnership with the City of Long Beach. Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch & Gardens is a 7.5-acre historic site with a ranch house (constructed/expanded c. 1800-1933), nationally significant gardens, a barnyard area with livestock, a visitor center, and a research archive. The site has been continuously occupied for over 7,000 years, beginning with the Indigenous Tongva people. The site's history and the lives of its varied owners and occupants make it a fitting metaphor for the Southern California experience.
