- (1888PressRelease) July 28, 2010 - Segasist Technologies, a Canadian software company developing volumetric analysis productivity tools for medical imaging, has today announced the completion of an extensive internal validation of its flagship software program, Segasist Prostate MR for Research, and the release of the program's newest version, 1.1.
Segasist PMR-R is a research software tool developed for the purpose of processing Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) of the prostate. Version 1.0, released on May 17, 2010, was created to assist researchers presently developing a role for MRI in diagnosis, tracking and treatment of prostate cancer. Version 1.1 has been released following extensive internal validation of the Segasist PMR-R software, and continues to assist prostate MRI researchers with a variety of improvements to the previous version.
Internal Validation
Segasist Technologies' goal in completing the validation was to verify the performance of Segasist PMR-R for segmenting the prostate gland in T2W MR images captured with and without endorectal coils. The validation process was completed last week, and the company has released a summary of the results on their website.
This validation process demonstrates the power of the ground-breaking software system, showing that Segasist PMR-R offers significant time savings for clinicians and researchers performing image segmentation and volume calculations, as well as a high level of semi-automated contouring accuracy.
"It was an extensive and exhaustive process to complete the internal validation", says Hamid Tizhoosh, the Chief Technology Officer of Segasist Technologies. "The image data we used is extremely challenging in terms of its configurational diversity and low quality. However, the end results justify the effort, and confirm that Segasist is a powerful segmentation platform with the capability to increase the contouring accuracy and direct consequence of time saving and higher consistency."
Segasist PMR-R is the first commercial software of its kind providing a complete solution for segmentation and volumetric measurements of the prostate gland in MR images. A summarized version of the Internal Validation Whitepaper is available on the Segasist Technologies website: www.segasist.com/internalvalidation.
Release of Segasist PMR-R 1.1
The newest release of the software provides a complete solution for segmentation and volumetric measurements of the prostate gland in MR images. The software provides complete integrated editing tools built around its unique Learning Engine™. It is the Segasist Learning Engine which makes the software most useful and convenient: the software can be trained, resulting in increased accuracy over time of its segmentation and volumetric measurement. In other words, the results of the software get better the more it is used.
Segasist Technologies' newest update to its PMR-R software provides a method of even more accurately and quickly contouring prostate MR images, and performing volumetric calculations. Compared to version 1.0, Segasist PMR-R 1.1 offers a number of improvements and modifications. These updates include: more user-friendly contouring interaction; new options allowing the user to achieve higher contouring accuracies in shorter time; and support for segmenting all image planes (axial, coronal, sagittal).
