Sedgwick Named a "Top Firm for Diversity"
Sedgwick LLP has been ranked 39th out of 194 major U.S. firms on The American Lawyer's "Diversity Scorecard" for 2011.
- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) December 10, 2011 - Sedgwick LLP was named one of the "Top Firms for Diversity" by The American Lawyer, ranking 39th on the publication's 2011 "Diversity Scorecard," a survey of 194 major U.S. law firms. This score marks the third consecutive year Sedgwick has improved its ranking, making it into the top 40 for the first time.
"Our continued improvement on the 'Diversity Scorecard' is indicative of Sedgwick's commitment to recruit, retain and create opportunities for diverse lawyers," said Sedgwick Chair Michael Tanenbaum. "At Sedgwick, we understand that our lives and experiences are enriched by our interaction with the diverse members of the Sedgwick family. By embracing diversity, the world view of our trial attorneys is expanded and our ability to understand and communicate with jurors across the country is enhanced."
The top 40 law firms were honored at the "Top Firms for Diversity" Awards Reception on December 8, 2011. Sedgwick New York attorney and Diversity Committee member Jessika Moon represented the firm at the event. The American Lawyer distinction was the fifth such recognition Sedgwick's diversity efforts have garnered this year. Sedgwick was named one of three finalists for the Minority Corporate Counsel Association's Thomas L. Sager Award (Western Region), honored as one of the "Equality Companies of the Year" by New Jersey's Garden State Equality, earned the "Gold Standard Certification" from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum and, just this week, was listed for the fourth consecutive year as "One of the Best Places to Work" on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index.
"A successful approach to diversity at any law firm must start from the top," said Sedgwick Diversity Committee Co-Chair Craig Barnes. "At Sedgwick, we have the commitment of our chair and all the members of our Management Committee, many of whom also serve on our Diversity Committee."
"The recognition Sedgwick has received this year not only reflects management's commitment to advancing diversity at the firm, but it also reflects our belief that it is just the right thing to do," added Sedgwick Diversity Committee Co-Chair Tanya Lawson.
