Securus, Inc. to Demonstrate New Comprehensive College Safety System at 53rd Annual Conference for International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators
Securus Releases eClick, a Mobile Safety Alarm System, For Use at Colleges and Universities.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) June 09, 2011 - Securus, Inc., a market-leading provider of GPS-based products and technology to address a new and fast-growing segment of the GPS market, Safety and Security applications, announced today that it will be attending, participating in and sponsoring the 53rd Annual IACLEA and NCACLEA Conference on June 17- 20 in Charlotte, NC. At the conference, Securus will demonstrate the newest and most advanced security system targeted to provide safety and security on college campuses.
"I am excited to meet police officers from a wide range of universities and colleges and to learn about their unique needs and requirements. I believe that not only will they be thoroughly impressed with our products and services but they will also agree with the police officers we collaborated with to design our products: that their schools will benefit greatly from utilizing our system," said Chris Newton, Securus CEO. "I believe that this conference is the right event to launch our newest product, eClick. We also want to support IACLEA's long history of serving college security professionals by sponsoring the Thursday evening kickoff event in Charlotte."
eClick is a discreet, portable emergency locator that enables college students to connect with campus police by pressing one button. It is six times faster and ten times more accurate than E911 technology today, and visible and audible alerts arrive at police dispatch within one minute of the student pressing the emergency button. eClick uses WiFi, Cellular Triangulation and GPS technology for maximum speed and accuracy in pinpointing students' locations. Locations can be found within 15 yards outdoors and 50 yards indoors, both on and off campus. Because many different technologies are used, eClick does not lose signal in dense buildings or remote areas. The eClick system also automates Clery reporting by providing police with a simple form to fill out as they close alerts.
"At the end of the day we are providing a private, personal safety locator that has the capabilities of working in any and all locations on a campus, as well as off campus," said Newton.
In addition to the student safety system of eClick, Securus has also developed a robust hub for their location-based security devices. It is a simple platform to track Securus' emergency response products, including eClick, GPS in police radios, and GPS in fire trucks and ambulances, when enabled. The system also tracks Securus' products for emergency prevention, including CatchAThiefGPS, as well as eCare and eSafe.
CatchAThiefGPS was recently showcased for helping campus police at North Carolina State University catch a bicycle thief with multiple offenses on his record. To utilize this crime prevention system, campus law enforcement attached the small, inconspicuous CatchAThiefGPS locator to bicycles, laptop bags, lab equipment or any commonly stolen item. When the item leaves its preconfigured safe zone, or SafeSpot, the locator sends an alert via text message and email and can be tracked on a map in real time, leading campus police to the location to collect the item and apprehend the thief. Officers receive turn-by-turn directions and can view location histories online or on their smart phones.
"As part of our comprehensive safety and security plan, we are investing in technology to help thwart crime on the NCSU campus," NCSU Campus Police Chief Tom Younce said. "Most recently, we partnered with Securus to help prevent bike thefts on our campus. Securus provided us with their CatchAThiefGPS product, which includes a specialized GPS tracking system and locators that we are using on bait bikes we place around the campus. We are delighted to say that we apprehended our first thief within 45 days of implementing the system. Needless to say, we have been extremely impressed with this product as well with the team at Securus."
