Second Selection of Outsider Art from Naemi's Art Collection
The National Art Exhibitions by the Mentally Ill (NAEMI) cordially invites you to the opening reception of the Second Selection of Outsider Art from Naemi's Art Collection Curated by Daniel Klein.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) December 23, 2014 - On January 10th at 5pm, NAEMI (National Art Exhibitions of the Mentally Ill) will present its new art selection at the Borders Gallery on 1601 SW 1st St in Miami. Daniel Klein, Director of Christian Berst Gallery in New York is the curator of this exposition. The artists featured experience significant mental health challenges and other trauma and have no formal artistic training.
This exposition will be the second selection of NAEMI's Art collection, featuring 50 art works of artists from United States Spain, Paraguay, Peru and Cuba. There will be a presentation of a catalog that will include poems of the recent decease Spanish poet Leopoldo Maria Panero. Catalog costs $10.
Naemi have several other projects arranged for the upcoming year. A personal show of Misleidy Castillo in April in New York. The museum at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania holds the opening of the New Cuban Outsider Art from January 19th - May 24th. Ideobox Gallery an exhibition of 5 Outsider artists from Cuba March 2015.While in Cuba, the current ongoing exposition at the Spanish Embassy it's on view until January 16th. The exhibition will travel to other countries in Latin America in the near future. NBC has made a press report reflecting on the selection as "Artistic outsiders shine a light on the subconscious".
Through public exhibitions, NAEMI seeks to educate the public about art as a tool for recovery and wellness for those experiencing mental illnesses. Art serves as an aid in overcoming and dispelling any stigma and discrimination while affirming the positive power and the creativity of individual artists. NAEMI is a proud pioneer supporter of Outsider Art.

NAEMI (National Art Exhibition by the Mentally Ill, http://www.naemi.org) is a non- profit organization established in 1988 in Miami, Florida. It was founded by Juan Martin, the current Executive Director, which aims are dedicated to discovering, studying, promoting, exhibiting, and preserving the art of those struggling with mental illness throughout the world.
NAEMI has done during this past 28 years old pioneering work in recognizing the artistic talent among many individuals suffering from mental illness and provides a forum for bringing these talents to public awareness. Every year, their Annual Art Exhibition in Miami receives around 900 entries from all over the USA, Spain, England, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, Brazil, and Chile.
