- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) May 10, 2011 - Madrone Studios is hosting a four-day documentary photography workshop with the veteran photographer Sebastián Beláustegui. The workshop will be held from May 27 to May 30, 2011. Each day the workshop begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. The venue for this photography event is Madrone Studios, 1417 15th Street, San Francisco. To give individual attention to each participant, the intake is limited to 30. The workshop fee is $650. The registration, which is on a first-come, first-serve basis, closes at 5:00 p.m. on May 27.
The workshop will aim to impart skills, among others, to develop a "creative eye" for shooting quality photos for documentary works. According to Beláustegui, "what matters is not the technique, but the eye, the look, the art of observing before photographing."
With the expertise of Beláustegui, students can expect to learn to handle different lighting, develop an aesthetic sense and explore a distinctive vision and style for documentary photography projects.
From a layman in photography to a professional in this field, any person can attend the workshop. The only prerequisites are that attendees should have the keenness to learn; any digital camera, which can range from a cell phone built-in to an advanced SLR and an image editing program like Bridge, Aperture or Ligthroom.
The participants will have the opportunity to delve deep into the art and science of using natural light to capture the beauty, grace and finesse of the portraits through the eyes of the camera. "Natural light is the soul of photography, and you will get the sensitivity to work with it," said Beláustegui, the master photographer. The students will also learn to use the flash in diverse conditions of lighting.
Sebastián Beláustegui is an ace documentary photographer working independently since 1991. One of his works was published on the cover of the February 2005 issue of the National Geographic. Other magazines that have carried his photos include Camera Art, Planet and Gatopardo. Beláustegui conducts photography workshop throughout the world, and has held many exhibitions of his work in museums and art galleries across the globe. He has published a book titled Guardianes del Tiempo, for which he traveled to ten countries and lived with 25 native communities. At present, he is working on an editorial project called Africa in America.
