Sea Island Coffee Introduces Canary Islands Coffee To The European Market
Sea Island Coffee has become one of the few purveyors of the Canary Island Coffee, Finca La Corcovada. A gourmet coffee that is very rare and with a unique fruity flavor.
- (1888PressRelease) January 07, 2011 - Sea Island Coffee Ltd., one of Europe's leading specialists in exotic coffees, has started to import coffee from the Canary Islands into Europe.
From one of the most northerly coffee estates in the world and from the only one in the Europe Union, the Finca La Corcovada coffee is of the Arabica Typica variety. The coffee is produced by Juan Godoy in the Agaete valley of Gran Canaria. The valley enjoys a unique microclimate with temperatures moderated by the cooling trade winds and rich soil shaded by mango and papaya, which produces a fine measured coffee. Introduced to the Canary Islands in 1788 by King Carlos III, today coffee is grown in very small amounts by the Godoy family. This coffee is much coveted for its subtle acidity, delicate body and fruity tones.
Guy Wilmot of Sea Island Coffee said, "This has to be one of the very rarest coffees in the world. We have had our eye on securing coffee from the Canary Islands for some time to include in our portfolio of rare and exotic coffees. We had fierce competition from overseas buyers over the past few years, but our perseverence has succeeded. Coffee is really coming of age in Britain and across Europe. This evolution has followed a course similar to the way the wine market has developed. People want to know about coffee's origin; its story and terroir."
"The range of rare coffees that we offer represents the crème de la crème of gourmet exotic coffees. This is the opposite to the mass market. Some of the coffees that we source are only available in a few bags. The Finca La Corcovada coffee is the icing on the cake for us."
"Of course, gourmet exotic coffee is nothing new. Jamaica Blue Mountain, another of our coffees, is probably the best known gourmet exotic coffee out there. Hawaii Kona is also popular to coffee aficionados worldwide. What we wanted to do was source coffees from exotic origins that had, until now, been the preserve of only the very few. Coffee is an affordable luxury. If we compare them with wine, even the most expensive coffees come at an affordable price. There is a whole world of unusual coffees out there to experience. And they have wonderful stories and pedigree, so you're not only drinking the coffee, but experiencing the culture of the origin itself."
